How Generation ZALPHA Is Changing Brand Loyalty

Gen Z and Gen Alpha, the New Majority, are redefining brand loyalty. They reward authenticity and punish performative marketing. Here's what CMOs need to know.

I recently had the honor of being invited by Comic Relief to speak at the United Nations General Assembly, where I shared the stage with other esteemed leaders to discuss the emerging force of Generation ZALPHA (Gen Z and Alphas) that is reshaping our world. It was a great experience, one that continues to reaffirm my belief in the power of this generation to drive meaningful change.

How Generation ZALPHA Is Changing Brand Loyalty

A New Era of Social Impact Solutions

Every generation brings something new to the table, but there’s something uniquely powerful about Gen ZALPHA. These young trailblazers are redefining trends. They're rewriting the rules on how we consume content, how we connect with brands, and, most importantly, how we tackle social issues. If we want to stay relevant, we must understand what drives them. I want to share some of my insights with you:

Content Engagement Over Consumption

Unlike previous generations who passively consumed content, ZALPHAs actively engage with it. For them, platforms like TikTok and YouTube are stages for real-time interaction and storytelling.

The rise of “edutainment,” or educational content that entertains, is a prime example of this shift. For marketers, this means trading polished ads for genuine, interactive, and bite-sized experiences that resonate. The more real and relatable we are, the better chance we have of capturing their attention.

How Generation ZALPHA Is Changing Brand Loyalty

Brand Loyalty Redefined

One of the most striking things about Gen ZALPHAs is their loyalty to each other over brands. They’re incredibly discerning and expect more from companies than ever before. If your brand doesn't stand for something or fails to live up to its promises, this generation won’t hesitate to move on or even call you out. Just look at the impact of cancel culture on brands that misstep.

During my talk, I emphasized how this shift forces us to be more than just sellers of products. We need to actively listen, be adaptable, and champion the values that matter to this generation. Only then can we truly hope to build a genuine connection with them.

Galvanizing Social Movements for Good

I’ve always believed in the power of activism, but watching how Gen ZALPHAs harness social media to amplify their voices is nothing short of inspiring. They are changemakers who leverage social media as a platform for expression, discovery, and activism. Just look at #BlackLivesMatter or #FridaysForFuture. This generation holds brands accountable, driving change through movements like cancel culture and demanding transparency, diversity, and social responsibility. They expect brands to step up and participate.

For marketers, understanding that social impact is non-negotiable is critical. Brands must actively participate in driving positive change to earn the loyalty and trust of this powerful demographic.

Embracing the ZALPHA Era

Generation ZALPHA is already here. Their approach to content engagement, brand loyalty, and social impact is redefining the landscape for marketers and media executives. I urge every brand, marketer, and leader to recognize the power and potential of this incredible generation.

As we move forward in the ZALPHA era, brands that listen, adapt, and act with purpose will lead. We have to engage, support, and amplify them. Being real matters more than being perfect.
